Cristiano Ronaldo’s appearance has always mattered to him.

And the Portuguese star loves nothing more than showing off his sculpted figure.

Remember his shirtless celebration after scoring the winner for Real Madrid in the 2014 Champions League final against Atletico Madrid?

He also flexed his muscles after scoring against Juventus in the quarter-final of last year’s tournament.

Ronaldo has never been afraid to flaunt his body and apparently it was the same at Manchester United.

“Rio Ferdinand would tell us stories about how Cristiano Ronaldo would stand in front of the mirror naked, running his hand through his hair, and say, 'Wow. I'm so beautiful!’,” Peter Crouch wrote in his autobiography, per the Daily Mail.

And you can go back to his days at Sporting Lisbon for the start of Ronaldo’s vanity.

Ronaldo would study his body while topless

Ronaldo’s roommate during his time at the Portuguese club, Vitaly Kutuzo, has opened up on sharing a room with a young Cristiano in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport

But the Portugal international wasn’t desperate to look good for the sake of the camera - he was simply obsessed with physical excellence.

“He trained a lot and well but not like a star or more than we did,” Kutuzo said, per AS. “He looked after his body more than most of us.

“I’ve never met anyone as self-absorbed in that aspect of our profession.

“In the dressing room he would take off his shirt then remain topless for quite a long time.

“He would meticulously study every centimetre of his body - shoulders, abdomen, his legs...

“He would always be asking us how to become stronger - but not so that he would appear on the front covers of magazines.

“He only wanted to know how to become a better footballer.”

So perhaps it’s not vanity so much as a desperate desire to create the best possible physique, that would in turn result in success.

And there can be no doubting that Ronaldo has enjoyed a phenomenal career.

League titles in three different countries, five Ballon d’Or awards and five Champions League victories, his list of honours speaks for itself.
