Andy Ruiz Jr has been announced as the man who is to fight Anthony Joshua on June 1 after Jarrell Miller failed numerous drug test.

It's a decision that hasn't exactly been a popular one with fans of the heavyweight boxing division.

But it's led to many asking the question - who actually is Andy Ruiz Jr?

Ruiz also known as "The Destroyer" is 29 years old and was born in Imperial Valley, California.

The Mexican-American has a record of 32 wins and 1 loss , 21 of those wins via knockout.

His most recent and only shot at a world title was back in December of 2016 when he fought the New Zealander Joseph Parker.

The fight was for the vacant WBO heavyweight title and it went to a points decision.

Parker was victorious on the day, but some fans thought Ruiz was actually the deserved winner.

Despite his stocky body type, Ruiz showed off his traits of quick movement and jabs.

The undefeated AJ stands at 6ft 6, four inches more than Ruiz which gives him a distinct height advantage.

Ruiz will have a shot at the WBA, IBF, WBO AND IBO titles that Joshua currently holds, but the Brit won't want to give them up easily, especially on his US debut.

However, the Mexican-American is confident that he can be the first of his heritage to be heavyweight world champion.

"I think the fight is going toe-to-toe, two guys smashing each other's faces. I'm going in there to throw combinations like I've never done before, to improve my speed.

"I think being so tall he fights like a big robot. I think with my style, my speed, my movement, I don't think he's fought anybody like me. It's going to be a whole different ball game. I'm going to bring the pressure, the speed, and the combinations to him.

"When I do pull out this win, everything is going to change. I'm going to bring the titles back to Mexico, it's going to mean everything. I'm going to be able to change my whole family's lives; my life and all my kids."

But AJ isn't worried about his change in opponent.

"We have worked in the boxing gym week on week and whomever is put in front of me at Madison Square Garden will be dispatched in style. The rent will be collected."
