British boxer Amir Khan has suggested that he is still right at the top of his game despite the loss he suffered to Terence Crawford last month.

The 32-year-old fighter fell to WBO champion Crawford after a low blow prevented him from continuing during the sixth round.

This TKO was the fifth defeat of his career, but despite that, the Bolton-born boxer still believes he can mix it with the best.

“In the fight I was still there. He was technically a very good fighter and I did find it quite hard to get to him.

"But I still think, maybe not against a Crawford, but I still feel I’m better than the guys like Danny Garcia, Lamont Peterson, Keith Thurman, Manny Pacquiao. Those fights could be big still," Khan told The National, as per Boxing Scene.

"I still have it in me. I still love the sport and I still work hard. I still feel like I’m up there.

"Mentally I’m quite strong and I know I’ll always come back from defeats. I’ve been knocked out, come back and become world champion again. I’m sure I can do it again.”

Khan also talked about what was up next for him following the defeat.

“I’m still enjoying it, I’m still like a kid in a sweetie shop when I’m in the gym.

“I always said I want to leave the sport the way I walked in. I don’t want to stay in the game for too long, I want to enjoy my youth with my family.

“I’m only 32, although this is the last chapter of my career. I want to fight maybe one or two more times and then maybe call it a day. It just depends what’s out there for me."

Clearly, for former Olympic silver medalist Khan, he's still got a lot to do within the sport before he retires.

Khan had taken a two-year break from fighting after his loss to Canelo Alvarez in Las Vegas in 2016 after attempting to defend his WBC middleweight title.

His return in 2018 had been successful with victories over Phil Lo Greco and Samuel Vargas to set up the bout with Crawford for the WBO belt.

The loss now leaves him with an overall record of 33-5, but he clearly doesn't intend to retire just yet with so many top fighters still to enter the ring with.

Let's hope that he can get a few more wins in before he hangs up the gloves, once and for all.
