Eddie Hearn confirms Wladimir Klitschko comeback talks with DAZN

Ukrainian boxing great Wladimir Klitschko is rumoured to make a stunning return to the sport following a two-year absence.

The former heavyweight champion has reportedly received a $76 million offer from streaming service DAZN in an attempt to lure him out of retirement.

Klitschko hasn’t been in the ring since his loss to Anthony Joshua at Wembley in 2017, but following some suggestive tweets, it now suggests the concept of a return to the ring may not be a million miles away.

Eddie Hearn, known mostly for his work as the promoter for Joshua, also does the same for DAZN and has suggested that the service has indeed opened negotiations with the former champion.

In an interview with iFL TV Hearn, revealed: “I think he is looking at it. Nothing is happening at the moment.

“DAZN have spoken to him. We’d love him back, I love Klitschko. I think he is great, but we will see.”

The towering Ukrainian Klitschko recently posted an image on Twitter thanking Joshua for the fight two years ago and the part the British boxer has had in refocusing his mind to becoming champion once more.

Many people have considered this a hint at a potential return.

The post read: “Although, I didn’t win the titles on April 29th 2017, for me, it was one of my best days in my long boxing career (so far).

“Thanks Anthony Joshua for being the perfect opponent and part of my obsession to become a champion again!” followed by the hashtag “obsessed”.

Anthony Joshua will not be focused on that rematch just yet as he builds up to fight Andy Ruiz Jr. on June 1.

Following Jarrell Miller’s failed drug test, British fighter Joshua has had to quickly find an alternative opponent for his first US fight.

In a video on his YouTube chanel, he revealed he is pretty much ready to go before that bout.

“I’d say I’m 70-75%. I could spar 12 rounds today, no problem.

“The next few days I’m going to be heading out to New York. I’m going to be going out there to have another press conference.”

Let’s hope Klitschko is as excited to make a rematch with Joshua happen as we are to see it.
