Thibaut Courtois' first season at Real Madrid has not gone to plan.Like his teammates, the Belgian goalkeeper has struggled this season. He's even been dropped multiple times this season, with Keylor Navas and Luca Zidane both having played instead of Courtois. In March, after Zinedine Zidane picked Navas to start over Courtois, the French manager insisted that his decision was not 'final'.He told Marca, per Sky Sports: "No one can take away what all these players have achieved in the past. I have a squad of 25 players and I am going to have to count on all of them, on Courtois, Keylor, Isco...

"Those who played today were very good but I am going to use everyone. There are of course those who are sometimes going to be left out, who are not going to play.

"It's not a final decision, there are 10 games left.

"Thibaut is going to play again and the third goalkeeper is Luca (Zidane). That's three good goalkeepers but Madrid should have three or four great goalkeepers.

"You cannot contest four, five or six competitions with just one great goalkeeper."

But, two months on, a decision now appears to be made.

There has been speculation over Courtois' future but, according to AS, Real Madrid have told Thibaut Courtois that he is their first-choice keeper for next season.

There is concern regarding Courtois’ performance level this season but, despite his struggles, he is still regarded as Los Blancos' number one man between posts for next season and beyond.

Madrid expected more from him this season but they trust that the player will eventually make his signing worthwhile.

That has bad consequences for Navas.

Belgian football expert Kristof Terreur writes that Los Blancos are planning to offload Keylor Navas during the summer.

That's harsh on Navas. The 32-year-old has been a reliable player for Real Madrid in his five seasons with the club.

But, despite doing nothing wrong, he will be cast aside in favour of a player he has outperformed this season.

With Courtois being told he is number one, Navas might be more than happy to leave the club to avoid being backup for another season.

It is believed that the Costa Rican prefers a move to the Premier League.
