Fulham's relegation back down to the Championship has been confirmed for a while now so they've simply been playing for pride under caretaker manager Scott Parker. They were promoted to the English top-flight via the play-offs after finishing the 2017-18 Championship campaign in third place, but the step up has simply been too much. The west London club splashed the cash in the summer but sit second bottom of the table on 26 points and not even Huddersfield Town have conceded as many goals as them.Fulham suffered a 1-0 loss to the outstanding Wolves on Saturday afternoon in a result which means Nuno Espirito Santo's men are likely to finish as the "best of the rest" in seventh. However, as Fulham's one-year return to the big time comes to an end, there was a historic moment at Molineux as one player became the youngest to ever feature in the Premier League.

Harvey Elliott: The PL's new youngest-ever player

In the 88th-minute, Harvey Elliott replaced fellow midfielder Andre Zambo Anguissa to become the youngest ever player to appear in the Premier League.

Elliott was born in London on April 4, 2003, which means he made his Premier League debut at Wolves aged a mere 16 years and 30 days old.

The previous record was also held by a Fulham player and had stood since May 2007, when Matthew Briggs came on against Middlesbrough at the age of 16 years and 65 days.

Prior to Wolves 1-0 Fulham, Elliott's sole senior outing came back in September when he was substituted on for Floyd Ayite in a 3-1 Carabao Cup win away to Millwall.

The decision to allow Elliott to make history is an even lovelier one when you consider that Fulham are going down and hence may not play Premier League football for several years.

The teenager, who has represented England at both U15 and U17 level, will be hoping for many more first-team chances when Fulham return to the second division of English football in 2019-20.

The Cottagers host Newcastle United next Sunday in their final match of this season and then attention will turn to trying to keep their key players in a bid to gain promotion again.
