Liverpool faced yet another huge test of their Premier League title credentials this evening as they visited Rafael Benitez's Newcastle.

Jurgen Klopp's side needed a win to go back to the top of the table, with Manchester City not playing Leicester until Monday evening.

And things got off to the best possible start when PFA Player of the Year Virgil van Dijk headed home from a corner after just 13 minutes.

Trent Alexander-Arnold added yet another assist to his tally, but the England international was incredibly lucky to stay on the pitch shortly after.

Christian Atsu equalised for the home side on 20 minutes after Salomon Rondon's shot was blocked on the line by Alexander-Arnold.

But replays showed that the Liverpool right-back clearly handled the ball on the line, which should be an automatic red card.

You can watch the incident below.

Had Atsu not scored, the referee may have awarded a penalty and brandished a red card.

But even though Newcastle did score, should Alexander-Arnold have been sent off anyway?

VAR would certainly have something to say about it next season...

Alexander-Arnold was then heavily involved again as he set up Mohamed Salah to put the visitors back in front after 27 minutes.
