Speculation over Jose Mourinho’s next managerial posting has been non-stop since he was sacked by Manchester United last December.

Despite leaving Old Trafford in less than amicable circumstances, the Portuguese boss was never likely to be out of work for long.

Just over five months later and that’s certainly the case if reports are to be believed.

In March, Mourinho claimed he has already rejected the advances of several suitors with a view to returning to the touchline in time to prepare for a fresh campaign.

"What I have in mind is that I would like to be back in the summer, in June, for a new club, for a new pre-season," he said, per Goal.

"I know exactly what I don't want - that's the reason I've had to say no already to three or four different offers.

"And I know what I want in terms of, not a specific club, but the nature of the job, the dimension of the job. I know what I want and I'm going to be waiting for that."

Well, some claim he’s holding out for an invitation to replace Thomas Tuchel at Paris Saint-Germain following another premature Champions League exit.

Others, however, say a return to Italy with Inter Milan or Roma is the most likely possibility.

According to Sky Sports Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, though, Mourinho has received another approach from a club that can only be described as out of left field.

Celtic are thought to have made an offer for the decorated tactician off the back of winning an eighth Scottish Premiership title in a row on Saturday.

Next season the Glasgow club will be aiming to match the nine consecutive championships they last achieved in 1974, and it’s understood Mourinho would be tempted by such a challenge.

It also represents an attractive opportunity to add to an already impressive honours list from his spells in Portugal, England, Italy and Spain.

Then again, Mourinho has previously insisted any future job he takes will involve participating in the Champions League - a competition through which the Scottish champions must earn their place via the qualifying rounds.

Perhaps for obvious reasons, then, Neil Lennon - Celtic’s caretaker manager since Brendan Rodgers took charge of Leicester City in February - is the favourite to land the job on a permanent basis.

Meanwhile, though, odds on Mourinho getting the gig next term have been slashed from 66/1 to 6/1 during this week.
