Oh, Ole. Where did it all go wrong?

There was a sense that Manchester United were returning back to their old ways when they went on an 11-match unbeaten run following Solskjaer’s interim arrival.

That position was made permanent following a thrilling 3-1 win against Paris Saint-Germain in March - but the wheels have well and truly fallen off.

The Red Devils won’t be playing in the Champions League next season after drawing against Huddersfield on Sunday.

Their unbeaten run sparked belief that a top four finish could be possible.

But Man United’s form since that win in Paris has been just awful.

Solskjaer has watched his team win just twice since the 3-1 win against PSG, with doubts increasing over whether he should have been given the job permanently.

Man United's record before and after PSG

Indeed, it does appear to have been a decision that the club may be regretting.

Man United’s form under Solskjaer before the 3-1 PSG win:

  • Games: 16
  • Wins: 13
  • Draws: 2
  • Losses: 1

Man United’s form under Solskjaer after the 3-1 PSG win:

  • Games: 11
  • Wins: 2
  • Draws: 2
  • Losses: 7

That’s startling.

The drop-off in form should be a real concern to Solskjaer, who is expected to oversee a squad overhaul in the summer.

"I can't talk about individuals now but there's a chance you've seen the last of players anyway," Solskjaer said after the draw against Huddersfield, per the Manchester Evening News.

"There's always a chance it's a last time but I wouldn't say that about any individual now, I don't think that's fair.

"Today wasn't one individual that was disappointing, it was the whole team.”

Many Man United supporters thought their troubles were over when Solskjaer turned the mood around at the start of 2019.

But it’s clear that the Old Trafford club are still a long way from being successful, with Solskjaer also admitting that it’s unrealistic to expect them to compete for the title next season.
