The wheels have well and truly fallen off at Manchester United.Ole Gunnar Solskjaer lifted the mood at Old Trafford following his arrival in December but the honeymoon period is over.Since being given the manager’s job on a permanent basis, Man United have won just twice out of 11 matches.They are not going to be playing in the Champions League next season and there is a great deal of uncertainly surrounding the current squad."There is the chance you have seen the last of players," Solskjaer said after Sunday's 1-1 draw against Huddersfield, per Goal. 

“The players were running and trying. We just weren’t good enough. That is the problem."

The mood just two months ago was so, so different.

Ferdinand declared: Man United are back!

On March 6, Solskjaer beat the odds by leading Man United to a 3-1 victory against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

They recovered from a 2-0 first leg deficit to reach the quarter-final of the competition and three weeks later, he was given the job permanently.

Things don’t look as rosy now, but many thought that Solskjaer was genuinely Man United’s survivor.

Including Rio Ferdinand, who was buzzing on BT Sport after the win in Paris.

“Man United might not thank me, but get the contract out, put it on the table, let him sign it, let him write whatever numbers he wants to put on there given what he’s done since he’s come in and let him sign the contract and go,” Ferdinand said.

“Ole’s at the wheel man, he’s doing his thing. Man United are back!”

Oh, Rio. We may have been a bit premature with that one.

Gary Neville was also gushing after that remarkable victory, sealed by Marcus Rashford’s late penalty, but the mood isn’t quite so positive now.

Solskjaer and Man United have a very busy summer ahead.
