Celtic were confirmed as Scottish Premiership champions on Saturday thanks to a 3-0 win way at Aberdeen. It is the Bhoys' eighth consecutive title, with bitter rivals Rangers struggling to make a race of it in 2018/19.There had been signs of the gap closing between the two bitter enemies this season, but Steven Gerrard's side have struggled when it matters most.Nevertheless, Rangers did beat Hibernian 1-0 at Ibrox yesterday thanks to another goal from January arrival Jermain Defoe. But the game will certainly not be remembered for the Englishman's goal, more goalkeeper Allan McGregor's ridiculous red card in the 89th minute.

The Scotsman was taking a routine kick from his hands, but after the ball left his hands he proceeded to push his studs into the back of Hibernian forward Marc McNulty.

McGregor then fell to the floor and bizarrely feigned injury, but the officials duly handed the 37-year-old his deserved red card.

You can watch the incident below.

What on earth was he thinking? He's clearly been spending too much time with the hotheaded Alfredo Morelos...

Centre-back Ross McCrorie had to fill in for McGregor between the sticks for the remaining few minutes of the game.

McGregor has been a key man for Gerrard's side this season and will be a big miss in the upcoming Old Firm game at Ibrox.

After the game, Gerrard refused to defend his goalkeeper to reporters, saying: "I can’t defend it. It is frustrating, of course it is. It is frustrating because we miss a top class goalkeeper. I’m not sure what the suspension will be.

“He pulled off a world class save to get us three important points and then had a moment of madness when he loses control and gets sent off.

“It is difficult to defend and frustrating because we are going to miss our number one keeper now, which starts with a very important game [at Celtic] next week.

"I am open to advice, if anyone wants to give me any. I am sure the players are sick of listening to my record on discipline and talking about it."

We reckon McGregor got a bit of an earful from Gerrard in the dressing room after the game.
