Everyone expects plenty of change at Real Madrid this summer after their worst season for a good few years.

The reigning European champions for the last three years are a disappointing third in La Liga, six points behind Atletico Madrid with two games to play.

More than that, they've lost the same amount of games as 7th-place Athletic Bilbao (10), two more than Getafe and three more than Valencia, the two teams immediately below them.

Yes, of the three Madrid sides, Real have been the easiest to beat this season, even more so than Getafe - when have we ever been able to say that?

It's been a tumultuous campaign, with Julien Lopetegui quickly losing his job and then Santiago Solari, his replacement, failing to see out the season.

Zinedine Zidane is now back and he's expected to oversee mass change at the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

And while a few of the outgoings are quite predictable, one reported potential exit is very surprising: Luka Modric.

AS claim that Zidane has real doubts over the Croatian who is, we mustn't forget, the current Ballon d'Or holder.

Two things have created doubts, apparently. Firstly, Zidane feels that Modric has passed his peak and given he's 33, it isn't expected that he can get back to his best.

And secondly, he wants Christian Eriksen to play a similar role at Real, negating the need for Modric.

It's a huge turnaround for Modric who was on top of the world last year. He was key in both Real's third consecutive Champions League triumph, as well as Croatia's run to the World Cup final.

It now seems he may be unwanted, though, with it said that Real 'would now not stand in [his] way were he to be offered a move'.

Unwanted at Real, at least - there will be plenty of clubs willing to have Modric pull the strings for them if he's available.

He was strongly linked with Internazionale last summer, for instance, while it's certainly possible a Premier League side would take a punt.

They'd be signing a reluctant Modric, though, as AS say that he doesn't want to leave Real himself.

It may be the end of an era at Real, however - and what an era it has been.
