Ole Gunnar Solskjaer thought all his dreams had come true when he was appointed Manchester United’s new permanent manager in March.

The Norwegian enjoyed a remarkable start to life as the club’s interim coach after replacing Jose Mourinho in December and signed a three-year contract several weeks after United’s dramatic 3-1 away victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

That was the moment that convinced Ed Woodward and most of the club’s supporters that Solskjaer was the right man - maybe even the only man - for the job.

However, United’s form since the PSG game has been nothing short of disastrous.

Solskjaer’s men have won just two of their last 11 fixtures, drawing two and losing the other seven.

There have been countless low moments for the Red Devils over recent weeks but Sunday’s 1-1 draw away at relegated Huddersfield is right up there among the lowest.

United took an early lead through Scott McTominay but were pegged back on the hour-mark by Isaac Mbenza.

The visitors could easily have lost the match but, in the end, it finished 1-1. United can no longer qualify for next season’s Champions League campaign as a result and will, instead, compete in the Europa League.

Former Man Utd captain Gary Neville was scathing of the performance at the John Smith's Stadium on commentary for Sky Sports.

"There's nothing about this United team I like at all,” he said. “Just awful. Look at them. They're a despondent group of people."

To sum up just how bad United’s performance was, check out this clip of them trying to play it out from the back.

They can’t even do the basics right at the moment, it’s embarrassing.

As for Phil Jones - the undisputed *star* of this clip - well, it’ll be a minor miracle if he survives the summer cull at Old Trafford.

That said, he was inexplicably handed a new four-and-a-half year contract by Solskjaer in February.

United are currently stuck with the haphazard centre-back until June 2023.

Solskjaer has such a massive job on his hands this summer that it’s difficult to know where, exactly, he should start.

But shifting players who struggle to pass the ball 10 yards wouldn’t be a bad place.
