There will be an inquest at Manchester United this summer and very few people are safe. The players, in particular, will come under scrutiny as very few have proven they deserve to be at United much longer.Effort levels have been questioned, especially after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was named permanent boss. The players' abilities have question marks over them, too - how many are actually good enough to be what United need?Sunday's 1-1 draw at Huddersfield Town officially ruled United out of next season's Champions League.

Few expected them to make it when Jose Mourinho was sacked in December but the team played themselves back into contention over a brilliant few months.

It's been thrown away, however, and now the fans have more questions than ever.

Juan Mata has succinctly summed up the feelings around the club in a blog post titled 'You deserve better'.

"You deserve better," he tells the fans. "No more words needed."

And the fans do deserve better. It's not that they have any divine right to success, of course, but fans of every club deserve to see the players trying their hardest.

You can't say that about United right now. Some players look as though they're ready to leave in the summer, while others appear to believe they've already made it by playing for the club.

The fight isn't there - as shown by their wretched run of two wins in eleven games.

Huddersfield became the first relegated side to take something from a top six side yesterday. United are also the only team in the league to have played at the Terriers twice and not won.

That's clearly not good enough.

It's form that has driven Mata to say what he has. He hasn't written at length or tried to offer an explanation. He just feels that the fans aren't getting what they should.

And it's difficult to disagree.
