Manchester United's hopes of a Champions League place for next season were extinguished on Sunday afternoon.Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side travelled to Huddersfield knowing they needed three points to keep their chances of a top four finish alive. They got off to a good start with Scott McTominay opening the scoring after just eight minutes. However, United never pushed on and were second best for much of the remainder of the match. The Premier League's bottom side deservedly got back into the game when Isaac Mbenza struck past David de Gea with 30 minutes remaining.

Both sides had chances to win all three points in the final half an hour but there were no further goals.

Understandably, United have been criticised even more after the draw.

Many United players' attitudes have been questioned, including Luke Shaw.

But, not all of the players can be accused of not giving it their all.

Victor Lindelof has become a fan favourite this season for his performances in defence.

And he showed exactly why United fans have warmed to him after Huddersfield's goal.

Following Mbenza's equaliser, the camera panned to Lindelof trying his best to encourage and motivate his teammates.

The Swedish defender could be seen giving youngster Tahith Chong some advice, while also shouting instructions at others in red.

The camera then pan to club captain, Ashley Young, standing on the touchline doing nothing.

Watch it below:

That video is telling.

While Young's desire to succeed at United is unquestionable, he's clearly not the captain the club needs to drag them through tough times.

Lindelof, on the other hand, showed in that moment that he would be a lot better candidate to wear the arm band.

That's the view of many United fans, with many calling him a future captain.

While Young signed a new contract earlier in February, his performances mean that there is a chance Solskjaer could get rid of him in the summer.

If he does leave, it goes without saying that a lot of United fans will like to see the armband passed to their Swedish defender.
