Memories have to be cast all the way back to 29th January to recall the last time Manchester City dropped points in the Premier League. However, they were nearly knocked off their high horse by Leicester City last night. With Liverpool clinching maximum points at Newcastle on Friday, Pep Guardiola’s men needed to win their penultimate match to regain their two-point lead at the top.And that’s exactly what happened, eventually. With City failing to break down Leicester, it was always going to take something special to prove the difference between the two sides.

Step forward Vincent Kompany.

The Belgian defender unleashed a rocket from 30 yards, nestling Kasper Schmeichel’s top right corner to bag the only goal of the game.

A late contender for goal of the season, Kompany’s 70th minute strike means City only need to beat Brighton on Sunday to win the title.

Watch the goal below:

Unbelievable from the City skipper.

Kompany has played with many players who can pull off similar techniques during his time at the club.

Non-more so than a certain Yaya Toure.

City’s former midfielder bagged some corkers during his eight years with City, remember his Wembley strike against Sunderland?

And Toure quickly took to social media to provide the best response to Kompany’s goal, suggesting he was the reason behind it all.

Toure Tweeted to say: “Wow. What a strike Vinny. You watched me very close all those years in training. Come on City.”

The 35-year-old also knows exactly what it takes to become a Premier League champion after picking up a winners’ medal on three occasions whilst at City.

Toure’s brother, Kolo, was in the Leicester dug-out last night as he will have hoped his side could have done his former club Liverpool a massive favour.

That wasn’t to be though as City’s attentions now turn to Brighton on Sunday as they hope to clinch their second successive title.
