Lionel Messi could hardly believe his eyes as Barcelona conceded four goals against Liverpool to crash out of the Champions League last night.

Barca seemed to be in cruise control after winning 3-0 last week, yet goals from Divock Origi (2) and Georginio Wijnaldum (2) turned the tie around at Anfield.

Messi had a number of chances to give Barcelona an unassailable lead but, just like his teammates, he was unable to beat Alisson.

Poor defending from Barca's defence and goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen was also to blame. Liverpool were awesome, though, and deserved to reach the final.

Messi's night would only get worse as Barcelona's team bus left Anfield without him after he was held behind by anti-doping testers.

And when he arrived at Liverpool airport to travel back to Spain, he was reportedly involved in an ugly altercation with angry Barcelona fans.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Messi squared up to a small group of fans after they confronted him at the security checkpoint.

Messi's personal security guard, Pepe Costa, was forced to drag him away before the situation escalated. It happened at around midnight.

Once the Argentine passed through security, another set of fans reportedly applauded him. Whether or not the applause was sarcastic is unknown.

A night to forget for Messi.
