Hakim Ziyech and Noussair Mazraoui fasted for Ramadan during Ajax vs Tottenham

Ajax v Tottenham Hotspur - UEFA Champions League Semi Final: Second Leg

Ajax's Champions League dream may be over, but they should be immensely proud of what they've achieved in this season's competition.

With an average age of just 24, the Dutch side exceeded all expectations by beating holders Real Madrid and Cristiano Ronaldo's Juventus to reach the semi-finals.

Such an exciting group of young players, and yet it's set to be ripped apart this summer with Frenkie de Jong heading for Barcelona and Matthijs de Ligt tipped to follow suit.

Other players like Donny van de Beek and Hakim Ziyech have also been linked with Europe's biggest clubs following outstanding campaigns.

Ziyech, 26, bagged his 21st goal of the season against Tottenham and it came just 11 minutes after he broke his fast for Ramadan.

Both Ziyech and right-back Noussair Mazraoui abstained from eating and drinking on Wednesday due to them observing Ramadan, meaning they couldn't refuel until sunset.

That moment came in the 24th minute, when both players were seen consuming some kind of energy sachet on the pitch (see below).

Massive respect to both players, who were playing the biggest game of their football careers so far but stuck to their Muslim beliefs.

Unfortunately their night would end in despair as Lucas Moura scored a last-minute goal for Spurs to send them through to the final.

Moura's hat-trick made it 3-3 on aggregate at the Johan Cruyff Arena, but due to the away goals rule it was Tottenham who progressed.

Ajax players were visibly distraught on the pitch as their opponents celebrated reaching the Champions League final for the first time in their history.
