“We went through because of our desire.”That’s the opinion of Jurgen Klopp days after Liverpool beat Barcelona 4-0 at Anfield to reach the Champions League final.Without Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino, the Reds needed a perfect 90 minutes to overhaul their 3-0 defeat at Camp Nou.They also needed a lot of determination, belief and the willingness to run themselves into the ground. And nobody epitomised that more than captain Jordan Henderson.

It was he that forced the first goal. After his effort was saved by Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Divock Origi tapped it in to give Liverpool hope in the seventh minute.

Henderson grabbed the ball out of the back of the net and waved his arms to encourage the Anfield crowd.

But the midfielder’s match looked over on the half-hour mark.

The skipper clashed with Clement Lenglet, leaving Henderson in agony on the turf.

He somehow continued until half-time, where he demanded a jab and painkillers from the club doctor.

"I was struggling when I got a whack on the knee," said Henderson after the game.

"It was dead. The doctor said just keep it moving. I managed to get to half time and I had a bit of treatment, took painkillers, all that stuff which helped.

"There was a jab and tablets. Both. Everything. I said: 'just give us everything’.

"So I managed to get through it and the crowd helped as well and keep us going. It was an amazing night and I am honoured to be part of it and contribute."

But at full-time, you could see just how much the match had taken out of Henderson.

He collapsed on the turf and couldn’t even celebrate Liverpool’s incredible victory.

He then needed to be helped up by Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk.

Now that’s a true leader right there.

Liverpool fans will be hoping Henderson has fully recovered in time for Liverpool’s Premier League climax on Sunday.

The Champions League finalists host Wolves and need to win to stand any chance of winning their first ever Premier League title.

But they also need Brighton to get a result against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in order to leapfrog them on the final day.

It will need another captain’s performance from Henderson if Liverpool are to get over the line.
