Luke Shaw was the unexpected winner of two Manchester United Player of the Year awards on Thursday evening. The left-back fended off competition from Victor Lindelof and Paul Pogba to pick up both the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year and Players' Player of the Year awards.“It means a lot especially coming from the lads,” Shaw was quoted as saying by talkSPORT. “They’ve always stuck by me when other people haven’t and they’ve always helped me along my rough journey, but it’s brilliant, and of course thanks to them all for voting.“Obviously this season hasn’t been the best, but for me it’s been a better season than the last few personally.“I need to keep pushing on and see what happens next season.”

‘Obviously this season hasn’t been the best’ is a contender for understatement of the year from Shaw.

United have endured a dismal campaign and will compete in the Europa League next season after failing to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League.

They are currently on a five-match winless run and have sealed just two victories from their previous 11 games.

Let’s be honest: Shaw has probably the best of a bad bunch this season.

United fans would have canceled the end-of-season awards ceremony if they’d had the chance.

Paul Scholes’ eldest son, Arron, summed up Shaw’s win on Twitter.

He tweeted: “If you think you had a bad week, someone had to watch through all united’s games this season to produce a video of Luke shaw’s season highlights for the awards dinner tonight.”

He’s not wrong.

Scholes Jr. is fast-becoming a must-follow account on Twitter for Man Utd fans.

He made headlines a couple of weeks back for urging Matthijs de Ligt against a move to Old Trafford with the following tweet:

“As much as I’d love to see De Ligt at United, I wouldn’t even wish that on him. Go to Barca and enjoy your career mate because we’re wank and have a team full of bell ends.”

Then, after United’s 1-1 draw away at Huddersfield Town last weekend, he tweeted: “5 players walk over to the away end on the last away game of the season. This club is on its f***ing arse”

A straight-talker, just like his old man.

You have to imagine that Scholes would be exactly the same if he was on Twitter.
