Conor McGregor's future in MMA is currently uncertain, but if there's one fight which he would return in a heartbeat for it's a rematch vs Khabib Nurmagomedov.

McGregor and Nurmagomedov first fought against each other in November last year at UFC 229 for the UFC Lightweight Championship.

The Eagle won the contest in the fourth round via a neck crank submission, but the event was remembered more for the brawl that took place afterward between the two camps than the scheduled fighting which took place inside the Octagon.

Still, when the actual fight was analyzed, it was clear that Khabib had superior wrestling skills over Conor and he was able to dominate the ground game as a result.

Many already knew this entering UFC 229, but the action which took place inside the Octagon that night gave a clear indication that Nurmagomedov is the better wrestler.

This was one of the main dynamics of their first meeting, and Joe Rogan believes if they were to meet a second time, this would still be a problem for Notorious no matter how hard he trains.

The UFC colour commentator said on his podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, via Sherdog: “He’s always going to have a problem with Khabib.

"Khabib’s wrestling is so high-level, it’s so different, he smothers you in a way that you think you have good takedown defense until you run into that mother-----.”

If Khabib and McGregor are going to meet inside the Octagon for a second time, UFC fans are going to be waiting until at least next year in order to see it happen.

Both fighters were suspended for their involvement in the brawl following their UFC 229 meeting.

Notorious has served his six-month suspension, which expired at the start of April, but The Eagle's nine-month suspension isn't up until November later this year.

When Nurmagomedov is able to return to the Octagon, he is rumoured to be having a lightweight title unification bout with interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier at UFC 242 in Abu Dhabi.

As for McGregor, while plenty of fighters have lined up to be his next opponent, he might not return to fight until he receives an ownership stake of UFC. The current favourite to face him next is Donald Cerrone.
