Liverpool's transfer business last summer was outstanding - they picked up exactly what they needed.

The biggest and most important signing was Alisson Becker, given the Reds' goalkeeping issues in recent years.

While Naby Keita and Xherdan Shaqiri offered greater options in midfield and attack.

All of those signings were expected, however, unlike their other big arrival: Fabinho.

There were no links and no expectations when Liverpool suddenly announced that they'd signed the Brazilian from AS Monaco.

And he's turned out to be a phenomenal signing, playing a key role in Liverpool's title challenge and run to the Champions League final.

Fans had been calling out for a 'proper' defensive midfielder for years. Jordan Henderson had played the role since Jurgen Klopp arrived but he was never ideal there.

Fabinho has been the defensive shield they've always wanted, however, as shown by a new video by YouTuber Bassam Echelon

The ten-minute highlights package shows all the times that the Brazilian has 'dominated' the opposition, winning the ball back and shrugging players aside.

You can check it out here:

He's certainly becoming an irreplaceable player for Liverpool - there aren't many they'd swap him for right now.

After a slow start, he's come into his own and you'd imagine he'll be even better next year.

One other bonus of his arrival is that Henderson got to move forward, where he's been something of a revelation.

The Liverpool captain has been racking up assists and pressing like a madman in every game - he actually collapsed after the final whistle against Barcelona.

And again, it's Fabinho who has allowed that.

There are quite a few contenders for the top signing under Klopp, but Fabinho is undoubtedly up there with the best of them.
