Gareth Bale could have just one game left to play at the Bernabeu.

Despite playing such an influential role in Real Madrid's four most recent Champions League titles, the Welshman must so often have felt a scapegoat for the club's woes in what could be his final season.

Whistles from the crowd, the return of Zinedine Zidane - it's little wonder the 29-year-old is being so heavily linked with a move away.

However, in spite of what has ostensibly been a tough couple of years for him, off the field he's been doing rather well indeed.

Bale will officially be named as the wealthiest British footballer by the Sunday Times Rich List, published tomorrow.

It's reported that his earnings increased by £20million, bringing his income to a staggering £90m thanks to his match-winning display in the 2018 Champions League final against Liverpool.

His wages alone see him pick up £18.2m a year after tax, the rest being made up by various advertising and endorsement deals.

The list includes non-British players who reside in the UK and play in the Premier League, which means Sergio Aguero, Mesut Ozil, and Eden Hazard following in behind.

Perhaps it's to be expected that Bale tops the list given his global prestige, but look just a little lower down the list, and there are quite a few names that warrant raised eyebrows.

Theo Walcott is ninth, his earnings having risen £3m since his move to Everton. Willian is 10th and Andy Carroll is 14th, having scored a grand total of one goal in 14 games.

Carroll earns £90,000-a-week at West Ham and the club are keen to get him off their wage bill, with his contract expiring at the end of the current campaign.

There are also two new entries on the list, Harry Kane and Romelu Lukaku up to joint-16th with £16m apiece, slightly behind Raheem Sterling's £18m.

So there you have it - Andy Carroll raking in more than Kane and Sterling.

Golfer Rory McIlroy actually eclipses them all with £138m, up £28m on the previous year. Here are the full standings for British or UK-based footballers:

Gareth Bale - £94m
Sergio Aguero - £58m
Mesut Ozil - £42m
Eden Hazard - £40m
Alexis Sanchez - £39m
Paul Pogba - £37m
Theo Walcott - £29m
Willian - £27m
Kevin De Bruyne - £25m
David De Gea - £24m
Daniel Sturridge - £22m
Andy Carroll - £19m
Raheem Sterling - £18m
Harry Kane - £16m
Romelu Lukaku - £16m
