Toto Wolff has responded to reports that he could be leaving Mercedes to take up the position of Head of Formula One.

Recent reports have suggested that the Austrian could be in line to take over Chase Carey’s role when his current contract comes to an end in 2020.

Wolff became the team's chief back in 2013 and has overseen a domination in Formula One, with the help of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg.

Mercedes have enjoyed unprecedented success, winning the Constructors’ and Drivers’ championship in each of the past five seasons.

And all eyes will be on the powerhouses this weekend as they prepare for the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona, with star drivers Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas seeking more success.

Hamilton and Bottas have enjoyed a blistering opening to the 2019 season and lead the way at the summit of the Drivers’ championship standings so far this year.

The duo will battle it out for a fifth straight one-two podium finish in Barcelona as Mercedes look set for another season of success already.

And despite the rumours, Wolff has moved swiftly to shut down any talk of his future.

"I could not take my job seriously if I participated in such speculation," he told Kronen Zeitung, as per GPFans.

"A journalist has written a funny story which is full of speculation.

"But I am still at Mercedes for a long time and have a great task to lead this team. It's fun and not something I want to change."

The suggestion that Wolff is being eyed up as the potential new CEO of the company should Carey leave his job will worry Mercedes.

However, their rivals Ferrari and Red Bull could have something to say over the issue, according to website Pit Pass.

“While Red Bull would have to do what it always does, whinge, Ferrari would at least have recourse to its well-documented power of veto,” read their website.
