It has been a rather forgettable season for all involved at Manchester United.

Under Jose Mourinho, the club lurched from one poor result to the next with the toxic dressing room environment mainly to blame.

As a result, Mourinho was shown the sack and club legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was brought in to right the ship.

Initially, he did just that, with the Red Devils surging to some fantastic results as they clawed their way back into contention for the top four while knocking Paris Saint-Germain out of the Champions League.

Solskjaer was handed the reigns on a permanent basis following his positive start with United fans welcoming the decision.

The wheels well and truly came off following that famous night in Paris however, as shades of Mourinho’s final days worryingly began to surface again.

The club’s good form has seemingly gone off a cliff, winning just two of their last 11 games.

They have fallen out of contention for the top four and crashed out of Europe at the hands of Barcelona as Solskjaer’s problems continue to mount.

It seems that Solskjaer already has his sights set on next season, however - the Norwegian claiming that he intends to take full advantage of the clubs extended summer break.

Solskjaer will be taking no prisoners during pre-season and has already warned his players that there will be severe consequences if they report back for training at any level below peak fitness.

“They have all got their programmes to do over the summer. We expect them to be ready to go on July 1 when we start,” said Solskjaer.

“We’re not going to use the first 10 days to build them up, they should be ready to go.

“We have a longer summer break than any of the other challengers and have to use that as an advantage. It’s not like a threat – but whoever’s not ready on July 1 will probably stay and not travel with us on tour.”

Ole’s at the wheel - and cracking the whip, too.

United will travel to Australia and the far east on their pre-season tour as they prepare for what they hope will be a much improved season.

They have a lot of ground to make up on some of their rivals, but it looks like Ole is determined to do everything in his power to return the Red Devils to former glories.
