Liverpool are in desperate need of a favour from Brighton on the final day of the Premier League season. The Reds are a point behind leaders Manchester City, who travel to the Amex Stadium knowing that three points will be enough to secure their second straight title.Pep Guardiola’s don't even need to win. They simply need to match Liverpool’s result against Wolves to be champions. It’s been an absorbing title race. Both clubs are worthy champions, with the possibility of City finishing on 98 points and Liverpool on 97.Imagine collecting 97 points and not winning the title. Incredible.

City have been utterly relentless though, collecting 48 points from a possible 51 in 2019.

They have won their last 13 league games, dealing with the pressure placed upon them by Liverpool masterfully. And they’re favourites to make it 14 wins in a row, and win the title in the process.

Liverpool need a Brighton favour

Liverpool fans will look for any omen to give them hope and one comes in the form of Brighton boss Chris Hughton.

Hughton is the last manager to defeat Man City on the final day of a Premier League season.

The 60-year-old was in charge of Norwich when the Canaries beat City 3-2 at the Etihad Stadium on the final day of the 2012-13 campaign.

So, Liverpool fans. There’s a chance.

Brighton midfielder Pascal Gross will be among those tasked with stopping Man City, and the German is eager to see Liverpool win a trophy this season.

“They [and City] both deserve it,” Gross said, per the Telegraph.

“But I think the way Liverpool play, the way they have played all year and even last season - the second time in a row in the Champions League final, the most points they’ve ever had in the Premier League, I think they deserve one title whatever it will be.”
