Earlier this week, Anderson Silva admitted he was still interested in creating a super-fight between himself and Conor McGregor.Silva talked a good game in the build-up to his UFC 237 clash with Jared Cannonier, and despite only one win in his last seven fights 'The Spider' can still command a big spot on pay-per-view.Despite now being 44, Silva looks like he's still got some fire left in the belly and only Dana White is stopping such a clash being made, as McGregor has reportedly agreed to fight him. Before any future fight was made though he would first have to get past Cannonier, and he would have a raucous home country crowd in Rio de Janeiro to help him.Cannonier was coming off the back of a TKO victory over David Branch back in November on his middleweight debut, and was about to take another scalp.Just before round one was over in Rio, Cannonier caught Silva in the knee area with a deadly leg kick, and Herb Dean immediately threw himself between the action to stop the fight.Silva tried to defend but he was clearly in a great deal of pain, and it was a great stoppage from Dean to prevent even further harm from being caused. It was eerily reminiscent of the injury he suffered in December 2013 against Chris Weidman, where Silva snapped his leg after a kick attempt was checked by his opponent.Safe to say the Brazilian fans were not happy at the loss and Cannonier's post-fight interview was drowned out by a chorus of boos.

So what is next for one of the greatest middleweights of all time?

Well speaking to ESPN following the event, Michael Bisping thinks it's time for Silva to hang up the gloves after a glittering career.

"Anderson Silva is a true legend of the sport and he's given so much," explained Bisping, "But he is 44 years old.

"A lot of people wondered 'Why is he still fighting?' I think tonight - even though he looked okay - the fight ended, he took an inside leg kick, and I think he tore his ACL.

"I don't think we will see Anderson Silva fight again. He certainly doesn't need to - father time has caught him up."

It won't be a popular opinion to some ardent Silva fans, but at the age of 44 now and the amount of fighting he's done in his career, maybe Bisping is correct in calling that it's now time for 'The Spider' to take his bow.
