Liverpool have narrowly missed out on the Premier League title again. The Reds have been incredible this season, but they needed to beat Wolves on the final day and hope Manchester City dropped points away at Brighton & Hove Albion to be crowned champions.Liverpool did what they needed to do as a brace from Sadio Mane saw them beat Wolves 2-0.However, Pep Guardiola's side managed to pick up three points at the Amex Stadium to break Liverpool fans' hearts.Man City actually went 1-0 down after 27 minutes as Glenn Murray headed home to give Brighton a shock lead.

But Man City hit back almost instantly.

Sergio Aguero made it 1-1 just 83 seconds later and then Aymeric Laporte headed home to give Guardiola's side the lead.

Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan both scored in the second half to give City a comfortable win.

For Liverpool, it could be argued that they let the title slip from their grasp.

Although they accumulated 97 points - a quite ridiculous tally - they were odds on to win their first Premier League title at Christmas.

At Christmas Liverpool held a four-point lead over Man City at the top of the table.

That lead became seven points at the new year.

However, Liverpool weren't able to hold on, meaning they will have to wait at least another season to win the title.

Unfortunately for them, Liverpool have now held the lead at Christmas on three occasions in the last decade but have never gone on to win the title.

According to Duncan Alexander, Liverpool are the only team that have failed to win the league after being top at Christmas in that time frame.

Ouch.

Liverpool have also become the only team to lose just one Premier League game and not win the title.

Missing out on the Premier League title yet again will be tough to take for Liverpool fans but the club still has the chance to make it a successful season when they face Tottenham in the Champions League final on June 1.
