Throughout this season’s Premier League title run-in, Gary Neville made no secret of his desire to see Liverpool fall at the final hurdle. For the Sky Sports pundit and many other Manchester United fans, City winning the title was the lesser of two evils.“My perfect scenario today is that Brighton score to make it 1-0 with about five minutes to go and Liverpool are winning 1-0 at the time, then somebody from Wolves scores with two minutes to go!” he revealed before Sunday’s matches. “That would almost be perfect.”Neville has always been very open about his dislike of Liverpool, even though his stance has softened since retirement.“Gary Neville is a red, he hates Scousers!” is still a chant that echoes around Old Trafford from time to time.

His ‘hatred’ towards Liverpool has become more tongue-in-cheek since striking up an excellent on-screen relationship with his Sky Sports colleague Jamie Carragher.

But the thought of Carra gloating all summer following a Liverpool title triumph meant Neville was desperate for City to do the business at Brighton’s Amex Stadium.

Fortunately for the ex-Man Utd captain, they did just that: coming back from 1-0 down to record a 4-1 victory.

Liverpool beat Wolves 2-0 at Anfield but it wasn’t enough and they missed out on Premier League glory by a point.

But despite rooting for City, Neville was targeted by City fans outside the Amex Stadium on Sunday.

Footage that was initially recorded by a City fan on Snapchat was posted on Twitter on Sunday evening and, well, it’s actually a bit shocking.

Neville, who was there to co-commentate for Sky Sports, had pints thrown at him by hostile City supporters.

Sadly, most people watching appeared to find it all very amusing - although fair play to one or two who tried to defend the former England defender.

Watch the footage here (and please excuse the foul-mouthed caption)…

In fairness to Neville, he did well not to react there.

He also did even better to avoid that pint of beer. Neo from the Matrix would have been proud of those reactions.

Lots of people have condemned the behaviour of the City supporters on the video, including a few of their fellow fans…
