WhoScored name the Premier League Team of the Season based on statistics

Manchester City v Liverpool FC - Premier League

Another Premier League campaign has come to an end.

And just like last season, Manchester City were crowned champions following an incredible title race with Liverpool.

City and Liverpool's battle for supremacy went down to the final day and in the end it was Pep Guardiola's men who clinched the title thanks to a 4-1 win over Brighton.

Chelsea and Tottenham completed the top four to quality for next season's Champions League, while Arsenal, Manchester United and Wolves secured Europa League football.

And at the bottom of the table, Cardiff City, Fulham and Huddersfield were relegated into the Championship.

There's been some standout performers throughout 2018/19 and the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) recently named the Team of the Season:

Alisson; Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, Aymeric Laporte, Andy Robertson; Paul Pogba, Fernandinho, Bernardo Silva; Raheem Sterling, Sergio Aguero, Sadio Mane

As always the PFA's team sparked debate amongst football fans, with Paul Pogba's inclusion a particularly strange decision.

Or was it? Popular stats website WhoScored have crunched the numbers and released their own Premier League Team of the Season, which also features Pogba.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andy Robertson and Sadio Mane all missed the cut, though, with Ricardo Pereira, Lucas Digne and Mohamed Salah earning a place instead.

Lukasz Fabianski and Fabian Schar also made the XI following solid seasons for West Ham and Newcastle respectively, while Eden Hazard has replaced Bernardo Silva.

Clearly Pogba has done something right to be included in the PFA and WhoScored's Team of the Seasons, despite the amount of criticism he's come under.

Indeed, the Frenchman was United's top goalscorer and top assister for 2018/19, which arguably says more about his teammates than it does him.
