Ajax certainly have a history of losing talented players to FC Barcelona, dating back to the '70s.

Johan Cruyff, Johan Neeskens, the De Boer brothers, Jari Litmanen, as well as managers Rinus Michael and Louis van Gaal, have left Ajax for Barca.

Many more, like Ronald Koeman and Patrick Kluivert have ended up at Camp Nou from Ajax via elsewhere.

And the latest to join that list is Frenkie de Jong. The youngster has already agreed a deal to move to Barcelona after four years at Ajax.

The deal will cost Barca €75m, making it a record sale for the Eredivisie.

It's the inevitable outcome for a successful Ajax side - and this one has been exactly that.

While they've fallen just seconds short of a Champions League final, Ajax have lifted the Dutch Cup and, unless there's a three-point and 14-goal swing on the final day, they'll also win the Eredivisie.

It would be their first since 2014 and the team's success has naturally created a bond with the fans.

Nothing shows that better than Ajax fans giving a fitting sendoff to De Jong after his final home game.

Footage shows the fans chanting and singing as the 22-year-old joins in from a balcony.

De Jong may not be the only Ajax talent heading to Catalonia, of course.

Matthijs de Ligt is being very strongly linked with the same move. The teenage Ajax captain has been a revelation over the last couple of seasons and has admitted he's likely leaving.

The likes of Hakim Ziyech and Donny van der Beek are also rumoured to be leaving.

It's certainly a shame to see this Ajax team broken up so quickly but there's little doubt that the players have earned themselves big moves.

Ajax fans just need to hope their club can create yet another exciting, young team before too long.
