Pep Guardiola has been named Premier League Manager of the Season for 2018-19 after a brilliant season with Manchester City.

The Spaniard retained the title with the Citizens after fending off Liverpool, finishing on 98 points.

City were brilliant, particularly in the second half of the season.

They won their final 14 league matches and collected a total of 51 points from a possible 54 in games played in 2019.

So, while Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool pushed Man City all the way, it's hard to argue against Guardiola's triumph.

Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo also deserves huge credit for leading the Molineux club to a seventh-placed finish in their first season back in the Premier League.

"It's an honour to receive this award," Guardiola's team wrote on Twitter. "But the merit goes to the entire team, the players and the staff. Thanks to all!"

Guardiola's success means it's back-to-back Manager of the Season awards for the 48-year-old.

In achieving that feat, he becomes the first coach to win consecutive awards since former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson did so in 2007, 2008 and 2009.

He also joins Ferguson, Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger as multiple winners of the accolade.

That's fine company.

Brighton & Hove Albion v Manchester City - Premier League

The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager has now won eight league titles in his managerial career, but he insists his latest triumph was his toughest.

"To win the title we had to win 14 games in a row," Guardiola said, per BBC Sport.

"This was the toughest title in all my career, by far."

City had to be perfect in the closing weeks of the season and they were.

Their victories over Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United in back-to-back matches were huge, as were 1-0 victories against Burnley and Leicester City.

Those results left Man City requiring just a win against Brighton on the final day of the season to win the title, and they managed to do it.

Congratulations, Pep.
