The autopsy on another disappointing season at Manchester United began immediately after the final whistle blew against Cardiff.

The Red Devils failed to win any of their final five Premier League games, topping off a woeful run with a 2-0 defeat to the relegated Bluebirds.

Any romanticism that was being attached to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's reign is now firmly out the window.

After humiliation on the final day, the Norwegian reportedly threatened to sell half the squad because of their poor attitude, per The Sun.

United fans will have a range of opinions on who needs to go. The likes of Chris Smalling and Fred just haven't looked up to the club's standards all season, whereas the Paul Pogbas and Anthony Martials are under threat because of their work rate and failure to consistently fulfil their potential.

However, one of the few players the Old Trafford faithful can agree on is Alexis Sanchez. The Chilean's spell in the north-west has been nothing short of an unmitigated disaster.

Take a look at his stats - nine starts and one goal in his only full season.

And all for the frankly ludicrous sum of £500,000 a week, a wage which has also complicated contract negotiations with other members of the squad.

It seems best for all concerned that the forward moves on this summer, but shifting him could present a further problem for United.

The Mirror report it could cost them as much as £12million to get him out.

Inter Milan could be persuaded to take a punt on the former Arsenal man on a season-long loan.

That deal would see United pay half of his wages and it's claimed they have already sounded out agents about making a deal happen.

The Nerazzurri are also said to be interested in team-mate Romelu Lukaku.

It might cost an eye-watering amount of money to organise Sanchez's departure, but Solskjaer will be desperate to get the ball rolling so he can initiate a proper overhaul of the squad in the coming months.
