The curtain fell on the Premier League season last weekend and that means, after a campaign of predictions, we can finally look back at the accuracy of talkSPORT's super computer.

The 2018-19 campaign marked one of the most dramatic title races in England football history, with Liverpool and Manchester City contesting first place right until the final day.

It was such a high quality year that Liverpool amassed 97 points - the third greatest tally in the competition's history - and still finished shy of Pep Guardiola's team.

The Citizens were once again superb, becoming the first team since 2009 to retain the Premier League title and finishing the season with a stunning run of 18 wins in 19 games.

The battle to qualify for the Champions League was also dramatic and despite challenges from Arsenal and Manchester United, it was Chelsea and Tottenham who snook into the top four.

Meanwhile, at the other end of the table, Cardiff City and Fulham returned to the Championship after just one season in the top flight and were joined by Huddersfield Town.

There were also success stories in the form of Wolverhampton Wanderers, who stunningly rose to seventh after their promotion, as well as strong showings from Watford and Leicester City.

Plenty of interesting storylines then and more than enough twists to make some pre-season predictions look rather ridiculous.

Super Computer's prediction

Everyone from pundits, fans and even computer programmes try their hand at predicting the Premier League standings in August and most of the time, they go hilariously wrong.

However, the same can't be said of the Super Computer used at talkSPORT, which correctly predicted over a quarter of the exact Premier League standings before the season started.

It forecasted that Cardiff and Huddersfield would go down, that City would edge out Liverpool for the title and that Chelsea would beat Arsenal to a place in the top four.

Check out their August prediction and the extent of its inaccuracies down below:

1. Manchester City

2. Liverpool

3. Manchester United (+3)

4. Chelsea (-1)

5. Arsenal

6. Tottenham Hotspur (-2)

7. Everton (+1)

8. West Ham United (+2)

9. Leicester City

10. Fulham (+9)

11. Wolverhampton Wanderers (-4)

12. Crystal Palace

13. Watford (-2)

14. Burnley (+1)

15. Newcastle United (-2)

16. Southampton

17. Bournemouth (-3)

18. Huddersfield Town (+2)

19. Brighton & Hove Albion (-2)

20. Cardiff City (-2)

Given the sheer amount of variables at play, that's a pretty astonishing prediction.

The Super Computer predicted the exact positions of City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Leicester, Palace and Southampton over nine months before they actually wound up there.

Not only that, but Wolves and Fulham are the only two teams that the computer placed in the wrong positions by more than three places.

In fact, you only need to swap those two promoted sides and the Super Computer correctly separated the two halves of the table with 100% accuracy.

It's certainly not a perfect forecast and it used swathes of data to make their prediction, but perhaps the computer shows that the Premier League isn't so unpredictable, after all.
