Get set for another summer of heavy spending, football fans. The Premier League transfer window is officially open.May 16 marks the opening of the summer transfer window, officially allowing clubs to sign new players. It will shut at 17:00 BST on Thursday, August 8.Premier League spending has reached astronomical heights in recent years - in 2018, clubs spent £1.24 billion during the summer - and it’s not about to stop.Increased broadcasting deals have paved the way for clubs to spend lavishly, as we saw last year with Leicester City spending £104.3 million and West Ham spending £99m.

And we can expect the top clubs to be busy, too.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to improve his Manchester United squad while Pep Guardiola will spend in his attempts to win the Champions League with Manchester City.

What deals could take place?

Arsenal, Tottenham and Chelsea were all adrift of City and Liverpool in the title race, so they will aim to strengthen in the coming weeks.

So, what are some deals that could take place?

According to the Daily Mail, Guardiola is planning a spree that could reach £200m.

Having already vowed that his City team will be even better next season, the Spaniard is eyeing Atletico Madrid’s Rodri and Eintracht Frankfurt striker Luka Jovic. City are also interested in Matthijs de Ligt, who is wanted by a host of European clubs.

Meanwhile, BBC Sport’s David Ornstein is reporting that Man United want to sign Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly and Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho.

Ornstein claims Champions League finalists Tottenham Hotspur are fond of Ryan Sessegnon, who seems destined to return to the top flight following Fulham’s relegation.

Meanwhile, Chelsea may be restricted by a transfer ban, which could hurt their attempts to replace Eden Hazard.

The Blues are banned from signing players until the end of January 2020, with a recent appeal being rejected by FIFA.

Chelsea will now appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, who aren’t expected to rule on that case until July.
