Despite losing the Premier League title race, Liverpool have had an outstanding season.

In the end the Reds finished second on 95 points having won 30 games, drawn seven and lost one, which would usually be enough to be crowned champions.

But Manchester City were just that tiny bit better and after losing more games but drawing only twice, they successfully defended the title.

Fortunately for Liverpool, they have another chance at silverware in the Champions League final on June 1.

Jurgen Klopp's men face Premier League rivals Tottenham in Madrid and will be looking to avenge last year's defeat to Real Madrid at the same stage.

Should they win the Champions League, Liverpool's season will go from 'outstanding' to 'extraordinary'.

It's no surprise that Liverpool have been as good as they have considering the quality of their manager and the players.

Klopp has proven himself as one of the most exciting tacticians of the last 10 years, while Liverpool's best starting XI is filled with world-class talent.

Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, Alisson, Andy Robertson, Fabinho... the list goes on.

The best is yet to come from this Liverpool side and one person they've proved wrong is Paris Saint-Germain's Neymar.

Back in September last year, Neymar was asked to predict what the Premier League top four would look like at the end of the season.

And the Brazilian responded by saying City would finish top followed by Manchester United, Chelsea and Spurs.

No room for Liverpool - and Arsenal - apparently.

"It's very hard, it's very tough," said the Brazilian, "but Manchester City will win it. Second will be United, third is Chelsea, fourth is Tottenham."

Neymar couldn't have been more wrong in the end, with Liverpool destroying everyone in their path to finish second and United - who had an awful season - coming sixth.

He did at least get City, Chelsea and Spurs' league positions correct, so he deserves some credit for that.
