It's hard to comprehend that Matthijs de Ligt is just 19 years old.The Dutch defender has already achieved so much in the game of football.De Ligt made his debut at 17 and quickly established himself in the first team.A year later, in March 2018, De Ligt was named the youngest club captain of Ajax. And the team has thrived under his leadership.

Ajax made a fairy-tale run to the Champions League semi-finals this season, before being knocked out in dramatic circumstances against Tottenham Hotspur.

But the club did taste domestic success as they held off PSV for the Eredivisie title and won the Dutch national cup.

While Ajax have a number of stars, it's arguably De Ligt that shines brightest of the all.

He's shown time and time again this year that he is the best young defender in the world.

It's even feasible to say that he's already one of the best defenders on the planet, despite being no where near his prime.

And he showed his defensive skills once again at Ajax' title celebrations yesterday.

Around 100,000 Ajax fans turned up to watch Ajax's players celebrate their first Eredivisie title since 2014.

But they weren't happy when the Mayor of Amsterdam, Femke Halsema, took to the stage.

One fan even threw a beer which seemed destined to make contact with her.

But, fortunately for her, she had De Ligt by her side.

The 19-year-old swooped in front of her and threw the beer aside.

Watch it below:

Absolutely nothing gets past De Ligt.

The 19-year-old also gave an inspirational speech during the celebrations.

"What's more important, is that we've shown everyone what Ajax is all about," he said.

"What kind of city Amsterdam is. We have shown everyone what we stand for. And that is attacking football.

"We've shown everyone what the big man above us (Johan Cruyff) wanted to see and what he expected of us.

"We did it all together. Experienced players, youth players and the supporters. We want to thank you."

And the celebrations of the 100,000 in attendance were just something special. Watch a video of them below:
