Manchester United have, unfortunately for their fans, become something of a laughing stock since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement six years ago.The Red Devils were English football’s most formidable and feared team under Fergie - but their fearsome reputation has disintegrated since the legendary Scot called time on his managerial career.By their own admission, many United fans would concede that their club are currently in the middle of a ’banter era’.David Moyes’ ill-fated spell was an unmitigated disaster, while Louis van Gaal brought comedy (and an FA Cup) but also the most mind-numbing football during his two years in the Old Trafford hottest.Next was Jose Mourinho, who managed to win the Europa League and the League Cup, but fell out with half the United squad before being sacked last December.

And now Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is at the wheel, but for how much longer is anyone’s guess.

The Old Trafford faithful haven’t known whether to laugh or cry at times over the past six seasons, but there has definitely been a lot of humour to be found in between the bleak moments.

This has paved the way for a brilliant Twitter account that was set up earlier this year: ‘Out of Context Manchester United’.

It’s a goldmine of random clips from the aforementioned ‘banter era’ and beforehand and is guaranteed to put smile on the faces of United’s fans.

We’ve picked out some of our favourite ‘Out of Context’ tweets from the account…

Phil Jones on corners against QPR (a classic).

Memphis Depay’s attempted headed back-pass to David de Gea v Stoke.

Man Utd registering 81 crosses in a single game against Fulham under Moyes.

Marouane Fellaini dribbling the ball out of play from one end of the pitch to the other.

A contender for worst shot of all time from John O’Shea.

Phil Jones being Phil Jones.

And again.

And again.

Go on then, one more.

Nani tweeting: ‘I am sexy’.

Shinji Kagawa and Alexander Buttner giving the middle finger inside the dressing room.

Daley Blind scoring a contender for GOAT OG.

Fellaini rivalling O’Shea’s effort for worst shot of all time.

Antonio Valencia eating an apple inside the changing room.

Ander Herrera's defensive disasterclass from a free-kick v Swansea.

And Anderson with what appears to be the Ballon d’Or (it’s actually the Golden Boy award).

Even though they might be a bit crap at the moment, at least Man Utd are delivering plenty of lols.
