You, the GiveMeSport readers, have voted Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt as the world's best teenage footballer ahead of Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho.

De Ligt comfortably won the final with 78% of 66.5k votes in comparison to the 22% Sancho received, but after the season both players have had it's no surprise they were the final two.

The 19-year-old Dutch prodigy has helped Ajax to the club's best season in a long time, clinching a 34th Eredivisie title and 19th KNVB Cup, as well as narrowly missing out on a place in the Champions League final.

De Godenzonen defeated reigning champions Real Madrid and Juventus in the round of 16 and quarter-finals respectively before Lucas Moura's 90th-minute second-leg winner saw Tottenham Hotspur pip them to the post in the semi-finals.

Sancho has had a fine season of his own, providing 14 Bundesliga assists, the most in the league, which has seen him heavily linked with a £100 million move to Manchester United.

De Ligt toppled esteemed company in his semi-final, earning 70% of the vote against Real Madrid's Vinicius Junior (9%), Chelsea's Callum Hudson-Odoi (16%) and Benfica's Joao Felix (5%).

Sancho was fancied slightly more in his semi with 81% of the vote though, ousting Manchester City's Phil Foden (7%), Juventus' Moise Kean (11%) and Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies (2%).

The Dutchman is a worthy winner, but you could make an argument over the absence of World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe, who unfortunately turned 20 in December last year. The Paris Saint-Germain forward has scored 36 goals and provided 17 assists in 41 games this season as the club won yet another Ligue 1 title.

Transfer speculation is always likely to arise on the back of a season like De Ligt's though, especially considering his age, and he's been linked with a move to Barcelona this summer. His Ajax team-mate Frenkie de Jong has already made the switch to the Camp Nou, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him make a dream move too.
