Pep Guardiola loses it with reporter who asks him about Manchester City’s FFP allegations

Manchester City completed the domestic treble with a 6-0 win against Watford in the FA Cup final on Saturday.

David Silva opened the scoring before both Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus netted twice and one more from Kevin De Bruyne rounded off the rout.

The win at Wembley saw Pep Guardiola’s side add the FA Cup to their League Cup triumph and Premier League glory.

In doing so, City became the first men’s team in English history to lift all three trophies in one season.

Given the circumstances, there was certainly a lot to celebrate on Saturday afternoon.

But after all the excitement of the trophy lift and when pitchside celebrations were over, Guardiola was called into his post-match press conference.

The City boss was likely expecting an easy ride, perhaps with questions about his team’s historic achievement, or how well they played at Wembley.

However, soon after sitting down, he was challenged over the on-going Financial Fair Play allegations against Man City.

Per Goal, the question referred to reports that former manager Roberto Mancini had received payments for other services from the club’s owners, effectively doubling his salary at the time.

And Pep was absolutely fuming with what was asked.

“Do you know the question that you are asking me?” he responded.

“Do you know the question that you are asking me… if I receive money for another situation right now today?

“Honestly, do you think I deserve this kind of question? What happened to Roberto I don’t know. The day I won the treble [I’m asked] about receiving money from other situations.

“Oh my god, are you accusing me? Are you accusing me to receive money in that situation?”

Ouch. Talk about putting someone in their place.

Of course, these questions do need answering, but there’s a time and place to do it and straight after the FA Cup final isn’t the right time, nor place.

So Guardiola can hardly be blamed for his strong reaction, especially so soon after making history with his Man City side.
