Sage Northcutt's debut in ONE Championship following his switch to the promotion from UFC didn't exactly go according to plan.

Super Sage's ONE Championship debut fight was against Cosmo Alexandre in Singapore on Friday, but it was over in a flash.

Despite entering on a three-fight win streak, Northcutt was knocked out in just 29 seconds after Alexandre landed just one punch on the American.

Super Sage crashed immediately on the canvas below and the referee stopped the fight there and then, declaring the Brazilian the winner.

This was the first professional loss via KO for the former UFC fighter. However, this was just the start of a long weekend for him, as it was later discovered he had suffered eight facial fractures from the single punch.

Northcutt revealed on his Instagram that he was forced to undergo nine hours of surgery to treat the eight fractures in his face.

Even after what must have been a horrendous weekend for him, he looked in good spirits and, in the words of The Terminator, he stated he would be back.

He said: "Fresh out of surgery...I had 8 fractures and a nine hour intense operation. Feeling blessed for the amazing care and all the support from @onechampionship, my family/friends and fans!

"My Terminator face is not too Shabby.. 💀“I’ll be back!” Next post is catheter removal😳...stay tuned-JK 😎"

Unsurprisingly, it's unclear as to when Northcutt will be back and fighting for ONE Championship once more. He signed a multi-fight deal with the promotion last November.

UFC Featherweight Cub Swanson did give him some hope about how long his recovery time will be, as he had a similar injury himself a couple of years ago.

He said: "Hey @sagenorthcutt I had almost the exact same injury in 2011 & I was back in the Octagon a few months later. I’m sure you’ll comeback stronger than ever too 🙏🏽"

Following the loss, Super Sage now moves to an 11-3 record in his career after having a 6-2 record during his time in UFC.

Alexandre now holds an 8-1 record in the sport with eight straight wins.
