Vincent Kompany has announced that he will become the Player-Manager of RSC Anderlecht. The Belgian defender, who announced he's leaving Manchester City in an open letter to fans on Sunday morning, revealed the news in a second, separate social media post. "For the next 3 years, I will take up the role of Player-Manager of RSC Anderlecht. Belgium’s finest," he wrote."This may come as a surprise to you. It’s the most passionate yet rational decision I’ve ever made."As a footballer, I was born and raised at RSC Anderlecht. Since the age of 6, I have been one with that club. A history of 34 league titles, they are second to none."

Kompany's post, which you can read in full here, went on to detail the background of his decision and how it came to fruition, before concluding:

"I have decided to take up the challenge at RSC Anderlecht. Player-Manager.  I want to share my knowledge with the next purple generations.

"With that, I will also put a bit of Manchester in the heart of Belgium. This is no goodbye. It’s a see you later."

Less than 24 hours after captaining City to FA Cup glory, Kompany announced his decision to leave the club.

He will also depart as the first man to captain an English team to the domestic treble and will also be remembered as a club legend.

In 11 years at the Etihad Stadium, the defender has won four Premier League titles and countless other cups.

But his new role at Anderlecht will be a completely different challenge.

He returns to his boyhood club, who finished fourth at the end of the regular season in Belgium, behind Genk, Club Brugge and Standard Liege.

Arguably, a player of Kompany's quality has a few years left at the top, but his decision to return home is one that should be respected.

Good luck, Vincent!
