Manchester United are in desperate need of making key signings this summer.

Just when it looked as though things were back on track under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, their season ended with some of the worst results of the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.

It all but dispelled suggestions that United could achieve their goals without making any changes to the squad and another summer of spending seems a necessity at Old Trafford.

It's news that will likely be greeted with great skepticism, especially when you consider how haphazard the Red Devils have been with their transfer funds in recent years.

However, fans can only hope that the lessons from Jose Mourinho's tenure have been learned and that their transfer policy will prove far more shrew under Solskjaer's control.

Joao Felix enjoying success

A number of names have already been linked with a move to Old Trafford including the likes of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Daniel James, Andre Onana and even Matthijs de Ligt.

Yet one of the most intriguing transfer sagas is their reported interest in Joao Felix, who has been something of a revelation at Benfica this season.

At just 19 years old, Felix broke into the Benfica first-team this year and made a serious impact by scoring 20 goals - becoming their second top scorer - in just 43 appearances.

Man Utd willing to pay £105 million

Not only that, but his style of play has even brought comparisons to Cristiano Ronaldo, with certain outlets suggesting he's the most likely successor in Portuguese football.

It has all the makings of an impressive coup for United and fresh reports from Portugal suggest the club are willing to go to great lengths to make Felix a Premier League player.

According to Record, the club are now pushing to 'win the race' for Felix's signature despite facing competition from the likes of Real Madrid.

The report claims that United are so determined to bring him to Old Trafford that they are willing to meet his eye-watering release clause of £105 million.

That would make him the second most expensive teenager in history behind Kylian Mbappe, but United are willing to make the compromise in order to crush the opposition.

What's more, it seems that the club are already taking action on their plans and Record explain that the negotiations between United and Benfica have already commenced.

Whether or not Felix will turn his back on Champions League football remains to be seen, but he wouldn't be the first young player to be seduced by United's prestige and history.

However, there is so much competition in the club's attack, that securing game-time wouldn't be easy and vindicating those comparisons to Ronaldo might be necessary.

Of course, Ronaldo proved in his younger days that moving to Old Trafford can bring success and perhaps United will and try use that common ground to their advantage.

Either way, even suggesting £105 million for a 19-year-old is something of a statement in itself.
