Vincent Kompany’s final season at Manchester City sure was memorable.

The centre-back bowed out a treble-winner after helping Man City claim the Premier League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup in the 2018/19 campaign.

That’s how you leave a football club.

And his goal in City’s 1-0 win against Leicester City on May 6 ensured there will be a fairytale moment for Kompany to look back on.

Indeed, the 34-year-old said he knew his time at the club was over when he scored that goal.

"The moment that ball against Leicester went 'top bins', I knew I was done. I couldn't do anything better," Kompany said, per BBC Sport.

The Belgian went on to begin a career as player-manager at Anderlecht, safe in the knowledge that his 11th and final season in Manchester was a success.

Kompany's ending v Gerrard's Liverpool ending

But not every player can end their time at a club by lifting three trophies and one Man City supporter has cruelly trolled Steven Gerrard by reminding him how his Liverpool career ended.

Gerrard’s time at Liverpool was a glorious one, but it ended with a wretched 6-1 defeat at Stoke City on May 24, 2015.

And City fan @jakemcfc_ has compared Gerrard’s ending with Kompany to highlight their contrasting fortunes.

“How my club’s captain went out compared to how a certain club’s captain went out,” he wrote.

Ouch.

Gerrard actually scored Liverpool’s goal in the defeat, but he was in no mood to celebrate as the Reds were already 5-0 down at the time.

It also happened to be the heaviest defeat of his Premier League career.

Still, Gerrard can remind Man City supporters of the Champions League trophy that he won at Liverpool - something City fans have never seen their team do.

Kompany will bow out as one of the finest players in City’s history, having won four Premier League titles, two FA Cups and four EFL Cups.
