Another La Liga season came to a close on Sunday and it was Lionel Messi who reigned supreme once again.Barcelona strolled to yet another league title, finishing a whopping 19 points clear of bitter rivals Real Madrid - who ended up in third.Messi scored two goals away at Eibar during the final game of the season, taking his league tally to 36 for the season. While that number would shatter the Premier League record of 32 goals in a 38-game season, it's just another day at the office for five-time Ballon d'Or winner.Never forget, the Argentine once scored 50 in a single La Liga season...

However, the thing which makes Messi so great is the way he contributes in every attacking department.

The most complete footballer of all time? Probably and to back that up, the 31-year-old's statistics from the La Liga season just gone are ridiculous.

Out of the 15 key attacking stats available, Messi tops 14 of them, per Squawka.

The only one he misses out on? Take-ons completed, with Celta Vigo's Sofiane Boufal making sure that it isn't complete and utter Messi dominance.

Messi's numbers in the area have declined quite significantly from 2017/18, where he managed 185 - which would have dwarfed Boufal's 144 this time around.

But there's no denying just how dominant Messi was in 2018/19, with his playmaking stats equally as impressive as his goals and shots.

The most chances created from open play (78), the most big chances created (34) and most passes in the final third (1139) - all by quite some distance as well.

But it is interesting to compare Messi's La Liga dominance to the winners of all 15 departments in the Premier League.

He certainly wouldn't be topping 14 areas over in England, in fact, that number would be down to eight.

Eden Hazard created more chances from open play (80), James Maddison created more chances in general (100), Hazard won 13 more fouls and also made 70 more passes in the final third.

So it really is no wonder that when analysed, the brilliant Belgian is said to be the closest player to Messi, which we reported on HERE.

No wonder Real Madrid are desperate to sign him when he's matching and outdoing Messi in certain key areas.

The data does beg the age old question, would Messi succeed in the Premier League?

It's almost a certain yes, but he probably wouldn't be as utterly dominant as he currently is in La Liga. Food for thought.
