Any player who has his own statue outside a football stadium has done pretty well for themselves.

Step forward Thierry Henry, who was brought down to tears after a sculpture of him outside Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium was unveiled in 2011.

Henry is Arsenal’s club record goalscorer, having scored 228 goals in 377 games for the Gunners.

The Frenchman was just a nightmare to play against. He combined incredible speed with perfect technique - every time he collected the ball, the opposing team were in trouble.

Just how good was Henry? He was named in the PFA Team of the Year six times, was a four-time Premier League Golden Boot winner and won the Player of the Season award in 2003-04 and 2005-06.

The striker left north London for Barcelona in 2007, where he added two La Liga titles and the Champions League to his list of honours.

Henry brought the curtain down on his career in 2014, having also won the World Cup with France.

'The most overrated striker in history'

Quite rightly, he’s widely-known as one of the finest strikers to ever do it.

But one football fan has sought to expose Henry as “the most overrated striker in history” and “the bottler”.

The thread, created by Twitter user @Hustler_Futbol, paints Henry out as a choker and someone who failed to produce in big games.

“2006 Champions League final. Henry missed 2 big chances. The most embarrassing when he was 1v1 with Valdes. He choked. Arsenal lost because he missed,” the fan writes.

His record compared to Didier Drogba is also brought up.

@Hustler_Futbol adds: “Henry played in 9 cup finals, scored 0 goals. Drogba played in 10 cup finals. Scored 10 goals.

“Henry was notoriously terrible in big games. You can't be ‘great’ and not be clutch. You can't think of any player in any sport that isn't clutch but is great.”

Even his decision to sign for Barcelona is called into question.

“Henry shamelessly joined Barca to piggyback off Messi and Eto'o to finally touch a CL trophy,” the thread continues.

“His only goal in the 2008/09 QF, SF or Final was when Barca were up 3-0 vs Bayern in the QF.

“This grown man was reduced to leeching off their careers. ‘Can't beat them join them.’”

It's a pretty scathing assessment of one of the most revered footballers ever.
