Statistically, Paul Pogba had a good year for Manchester United.

The French midfielder managed 16 goals in 47 appearances for Man United, while also adding 10 assists in the Premier League.

His performances were enough to convince his peers to vote him into the PFA Team of the Year.

However, it's fair to say that many United fans were not impressed with Pogba this season.

His attitude has come into question on multiple occasions.

Some United fans made their grievances known on the final day of the season as they told Pogba directly to leave the club.

But it seems Ole Gunnar Solskjaer does not share the same outlook on Pogba.

The former Juventus player has been heavily linked with Real Madrid this summer.

Solskjaer is aware of the speculation and, according to ESPN, is ready to give him a captaincy role to convince him to stay at the club.

Antonio Valencia is currently the club captain but is set to leave the club when his contract runs out this summer.

Ashley Young is set to succeed him but, with United wanting a right-back this summer, his playing time is expected to be limited.

And when he's not on the pitch, Solskjaer wants Pogba to be the man that wears the armband.

The Norwegian manager is hopeful that handing the 26-year-old more responsibility will help end speculation over his future.

That's the last thing many United fans want to see.

Solskjaer seems to be a supporter of Pogba and Patrice Evra is another who has recently defended him.

The former United left-back accused fans of 'killing' him and claimed he has been their best player this campaign.

"It's not like I am protecting Paul but when there are incidents like with the fan, they are killing Paul," he said in an interview with Sky Sports.

"He has the most goals, most assists. I know you can question his leadership and in the last few games you want more, so that's why you can criticise him right now, but overall he has been the best player this season.

"Just because it's Paul Pogba, he has haircuts, he dances, his Instagram and everything, people will criticise him while forgetting the player that he is. Only him and De Gea can play in a big team in Europe."
