Liverpool's 4-0 win against Barcelona in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final tie will go down as one of the greatest results in the competition's history. 

Jurgen Klopp's side were 3-0 down from the first leg at the Camp Nou. After that match, the Blaugrana were favourites to win the whole competition.

But they crumbled at Anfield. 

Two goals from both Divock Origi and Georginio Wijnaldum saw Liverpool complete a famous comeback and their win sparked scenes of jubilation at Anfield. 

Champions League success was Barca's main target this season, but that's off the table now. 

They will have the chance to win the Copa del Rey on Sunday though, when they face Valencia. 

And ahead of that final, Lionel Messi made a rare appearance at the pre-match press conference - which is the first time he's spoken in front of the media for four years, since May 2015.  

The Argentine was asked a number of questions concerning the Liverpool defeat and it seems that he's taking the result just as hard as everyone else.  

"We have to apologise for the second half of the match at Liverpool," Messi said, per BBC Sport. 

"Not because of the result, but because of how it looked and that we didn't compete. It was one of the worst experiences in my career.

Messi was also asked about the prospect of winning his sixth European Golden Shoe, which is presented to the leading goalscorer across the continent.

Unless Kylian Mbappe scores five more goals in his final Ligue 1 game, the accolade will go to Messi - but apparently, he's not been able to think about it. 

"Honestly I am not even thinking about the Golden Shoe," the Argentine continued.

"[It's] not in my head at all. What happened at Liverpool is in my head." 

Clearly, he's far from over what happened at Anfield and Liverpool's famous comeback will be haunting him for quite some time. 

But, when asked if he himself was considering leaving Barcelona, Messi gave an emphatic response. 

"No, no, no. I still want to keep trying to win something there. The Champions League exit does not make me lose my desire to be here."
