The transfer rumour mill is in full swing now we’re at the end of the season.

And, as is the case every summer, some of the rumours that have emerged over the past few days have been nothing short of ludicrous.

The best example this week was a report from Spain which claimed Liverpool had made contact with the representatives of, wait for it, Sergio Ramos.

Yes, that’s the same Sergio Ramos who became public enemy number one in the eyes of Liverpool supporters following last season’s Champions League final.

The Real Madrid centre-back, inadvertently or otherwise, caused Mohamed Salah to go off injured midway through the first half with a dislocated shoulder after dragging him to the ground.

It’s hard to think of a player Liverpool fans hate more right now.

Suggestions the club were in contract with Ramos, then, sounded extremely far-fetched - regardless if reports that he wants to leave the Bernabeu this summer are accurate or not.

The Mirror have done some digging and, low and behold, Liverpool have no interest in signing Ramos.

However, it’s not because of what happened in last season’s Champions League final, according to a senior source at Anfield.

“There is 0.0 per cent chance of Sergio Ramos playing for Liverpool,” the source revealed to the Mirror. “It has nothing to do with what happened in Kiev last season.

“Even if we had won the Champions League final and Ramos had shook the hand of every Liverpool player afterwards we would still have no interest in him.

“Ramos just doesn't fit the kind of profile that Jurgen Klopp is looking for.

“We wouldn't even sign him if he was available on a free.”

Blimey.

Ramos is one of the best central defenders of his generation, not to mention a talismanic leader.

Most clubs would jump at the chance to sign a player of his calibre - even at the age of 33 - but Liverpool wouldn’t even take him on a free transfer.

That’ll be a relief to Liverpool fans who felt there was a chance, however small, that Ramos could be heading to Anfield over the coming weeks.
