Barcelona's season ended in disappointment on Saturday night when they were beaten 2-1 in the Copa del Rey final by Valencia.

First-half goals from Kevin Gameiro and Rodrigo saw the underdogs take a 2-0 lead and Lionel Messi's late finish wasn't enough to inspire a comeback from the Blaugrana.

Less than a month ago, Barca were dreaming of the treble, but they will finish the season with just one trophy after winning La Liga.

It certainly shouldn't be classed as a poor campaign, but manager Ernesto Valverde's job could be under threat after falling short in the Champions League once again.

Messi and co. were shocked by Liverpool earlier this month when the Reds overturned a 3-0 aggregate scoreline to reach next weekend's final.

Winning the Copa del Rey gave Barca a chance of securing a consolation prize but once again, they came up short.

According to reports, it didn't take the squad long to hold an inquest into the poor finish to their season.

Spanish paper AS are suggesting that senior players, led by Messi, held 'crisis talks' at the back of the team bus on their way back from Saturday's final.

Apparently, major dressing room figures, including Gerard Pique and Luis Suarez, immediately set about seeking answers on the way to the airport.

Witnesses say the debate was heated and that 'it became so intense that its participants remained on board to continue their discussions even after the coach had arrived'.

Those players and staff who weren't part of the meeting had to wait around for more than 10 minutes before they were joined on the plane by the several stars discussing Barca's meltdown.

What was being discussed by Messi, Suarez and Pique will no doubt be splashed across the back pages of Catalan media in the coming weeks.

But despite finishing the season poorly, judging by comments the players have made in public, it still appears that all of them are fully behind Valverde.
